Advisor Meeting: Bryan Leister
Recently this video came out about natural-gesture tech being used on TVs – this is from CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2012. Yay I’m obviously on the right track!!
I am meeting with Bryan first out of all my professors because I know that he understands the hardware – he hacks the kinect and uses this in his art. Bryan and I talked first about the mechanics of what I am doing and he verified that yes, this tracking thing is just goddamned glitchy still. He pointed me to some old tech and how ‘new’ UIs develop – look at this video for the early Apple ‘Knowledge Navigator’:
I need to research the past for UIs that flurished and find out why. (I have a feeling I’ll find the answer somewhere in the remediation discussion.) He mentioned maybe I should do a concept video and NOT try to hack the Wii in actuality. The kick in the head for me was when Bryan said,
“Skye, answer this: Are you interested in coding when you graduate?”
“NO,” I said, not adding the mental ‘HELL’ on to the front of that interjection.
“Then why,” Bryan said, squinting and cocking his head to the side a little like he does when I confuse him, “why are you going to spend your final semester doing it?”
Excellent point, sir. Excellent point.
